Interested in contributing to civic tech in Oakland? We welcome people of all skill levels and backgrounds - technical skills are not required.

How to get involved

1. Join our network of volunteers

Tell us about yourself - your background, your skills, and the kind of work you’d like to do. We’ll reach out when we have a project that matches your skills and interests. Fill out our volunteer intake form.

2. Join us on Slack

Our Slack workspace is where our community connects, collaborates, and coordinates. Join OpenOakland on Slack and introduce yourself in #oo-meet-and-greet.

3. Attend our Monthly Meeting

We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm at Oakland City Hall (Hearing Room 3). It’s a great way to meet the community, learn about active projects, and find where you can contribute. RSVP on Meetup.

4. Explore our projects

Browse our active projects to find one that matches your interests and skills. Each project card includes a Slack channel where you can connect directly with the project lead.

5. Get in touch
